Butterflies from Alaska

drawer KWP-C13859-23

About this Drawer

Alaskan specimens, including the only Monarch (Danaus plexippus) found in Alaska and sent to Dr. Philip. This specimen (bottom right ) was found dead in a cabin window in Hyder, Alaska, in 2007. It is unknown whether the butterfly died inside the cabin or was brought there – it is the only specimen of this species ever to be recorded within Alaska, though there are other Alaskan butterfly species which have been mis-identified as Monarchs
